Maureen Meister, PhD

Postdoctoral Researcher, UL Research Institutes' Chemical Insights

Maureen Meister, Ph.D., is a research scientist at the Center for Toxicology and Human Health within UL Research Institutes’ Chemical Insights. Meister began her role as a postdoctoral researcher at Chemical Insights in June 2023, after completing her doctorate in Chemistry at Georgia State University, where she studied the effects of chronic electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) use on vascular endothelial dysfunction.

During her doctoral studies, she received a USDA-NIFA predoctoral fellowship to research dietary polyphenols’ protective effects against ENDS-induced cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Dr. Meister has extensive biochemistry wet lab experience and expertise in coordinating clinical trials. At Chemical Insights, her work will focus on various toxic exposures and include training in advanced toxicological systems. She will participate in NIH-funded studies on ENDS users’ behaviors on oral health and the toxicological implications of PFAS exposure.

Additionally, as a Registered Dietitian with experience in research and clinical dietetics, Meister has taught at Rasmussen University and Kennesaw State University. Her unique background enhances Chemical Insights’ research on human health, examining how factors like diet, sex, and ethnicity influence susceptibility to environmental toxic exposures.
