About the event

Come join us for a candid discussion on vaping, tobacco, and overall heart health. Let’s cut through the smoke and get to the facts.

Hosted by BlackDoctor.org (BDO), Chemical Insights Research Institute’s Dr. Christa Wright will be on the panel. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask her questions at our exhibit table.

Designed for medical students, faculty, and community members, No Smoke, Just Facts is designed to offer practical insight and encourage dialogue. Part of the Wellness on the Yard program, this event aims to provide valuable information and resources to help attendees make informed decisions about their health. Food and giveaways keep the atmosphere engaging, while the discussions offer real, actionable health insights.

What is Wellness on the Yard?

Wellness on the Yard is a program from BDO created by HBCU students and alumni. Wellness on the Yard introduces students to healthy lifestyle habits to help them succeed while they’re on campus and prepare them for life in the real world.

Christa Wright, Ph.D.

Director of the Center for Toxicology and Human Health, Chemical Insights Research Institute

Christa Wright  is the Director of Toxicology at the Center for Toxicology and Human Health within Chemical Insights Research Institute in Marietta, Georgia. Her work aims to unravel particle and chemical mediated molecular mechanisms that causes cellular phenotypic changes, which may lead to disease development. Using cutting edge instrumentation, Wright works to link chemical and particle emission exposures from various consumer products to adverse cellular outcomes using a systems biology approach.

Wright received a Ph.D. in Environmental Systems/Environmental Toxicology and a Masters in Cancer Biology from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. After graduate school, Wright completed a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute postdoctoral training fellowship at the Harvard T.H.
