Qian Zhang, Ph.D., a research scientist in UL Research Institutes’ Chemical Insights’ Center for Analytical and Exposure Sciences, has been recognized as a Healthcare Technology Leader for her work in 3D printing safety and exposure science by the 2026 AI NEXTGEN America Conference and Futurist Awards. These awards recognize leaders, innovators, researchers, educators, executives, organizations, and emerging talent shaping the future of artificial intelligence, technology, industry, and the workforce.
Qian will receive the award at a black-tie ceremony on Oct. 10, 2026 in Baltimore.
“I am thrilled that Qian is receiving recognition for her work in exposure science,” said Mark Wilson, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Analytical and Exposure Sciences at UL Research Institute’s Chemical Insights. “Her work is making 3D printer use safer and continues to drive safety improvements and awareness of the potential pollutants these devices emit.”
Qian designs and leads environmental health and safety research focused on emissions, exposure, and risk from consumer products and emerging technologies. Her work has examined particle and chemical emissions from 3D printers, vaping devices, and indoor environments, with an emphasis on potential human health impacts and exposure reduction. She helped launch Chemical Insights’ research on 3D printing emissions and led development of the organization’s 3D printing standard addressing chemicals and particles.
