Galen Spikes is a database engineer at UL Research Institutes’ Chemical Insights, where he contributes to the design and development of the institute’s data platform and underlying infrastructure. He works closely with researchers, data scientists, and engineers to build systems that enable scalable analysis, reproducible workflows, and dependable access to scientific data.

Galen’s background blends experience in both scientific research environments and large-scale technology platforms. He began his career contributing to efforts within the open-source analytics space during a formative period for modern data tooling. His work has included developing infrastructure for scientific applications and public-facing platforms, as well as operating high-volume production systems focused on automation, reliability, and operational safety in cloud-based environments.

He holds a B.S. in Economics and a B.M. in (Music) Theory & Composition from Florida State University.
